I paint the energy of my subjects be they trees, flowers, people or rocks. We all share each other’s energy, and this is what I want to paint.
People who have seen my work describe my paintings as “impressionism with a representational style; colorful, fun, and at times edgy! I am an Artist/Painter who now works out of my studio in Waterford, Michigan and I wake up in the mornings excited to paint. My paintings are reflections of what I see in my day-to-day life but as I see it. In the past my inspirations were the people and landscapes of South America, North America, the seas of New Zealand, and my own backyard. My backyard is now in Michigan. I have new people, new landscapes and new cultures to explore which is exciting and is reflected in some of my current work.
My dog and I walk daily which allows me to reflect on my paintings and subject matter. I have most recently discovered the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which is becoming my new subject matter for paintings. Where ever I live I always find a new group of artists who quickly become my “tribe”. Taking new classes, workshops and submitting my work only helps to grow my “tribe” and my paintings. I am always looking for the perfect painting but as in life the beauty is in the imperfections.

Denise Lipusch (oil painter) was born in 1953 in Akron, Ohio, “Rubber Capital of the World”. Her Grandparents had migrated from the Deep South and Appalachia to find work in the rubber factories. The Appalachian culture in Akron influenced her love of nature, art, myths and folklore. Denise never made the conscious choice to be an artist, it was what came naturally to her. Before graduating High School, her family moved to a small farming community in Hartford, Wisconsin. Hartford influenced her with a new culture of German European immigrants and was the first of many moves to come.
After attending the University of Wisconsin, Denise moved and lived across the United States and other countries. She has always been fascinated by different cultures, languages, food and arts. After living in Brazil for three years she returned to the United States and settled in Indiana. She and her husband spent ten years exploring the United States and Europe on their motorcycles, constantly taking photographs and sketches for her future paintings. The love of the outdoors and new cultures are always a part of her work.
Although Denise is well known for her vibrant paintings, which she describes as “impressionism with a representational style”, she is exploring a more organic textual style. Her new work is often inspired during her daily walks with her dog, Maggie. She has recently discovered hiking and camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which has added a new visual inspiration to her work. New techniques with impasto and palette knives have become a part of her new oil paintings but she still enjoys the challenge of realism, especially with portraits.
Denise has most recently shown her oil paintings at Atelier Art Studio, Royal Oak, MI, Arts & Apples, a juried art show in Rochester, MI and Canvas Pontiac, a juried show in Pontiac, MI. Denise is looking forward to experiencing artists residency programs in 2023.
