I paint the energy of my subjects—trees, flowers, people, or rocks—capturing their presence through bold brushwork, palette knife, and thick oil paint. My style blends impressionism with representational form, often described as colorful, expressive, and sometimes edgy. Working from my studio in Waterford, Michigan, I draw inspiration from daily life, nature, and travels across the Americas, New Zealand, and a decade of motorcycle adventures. Each painting is a reflection of what I see—and how I feel it.

Born in 1953 in Akron, Ohio, Denise Lipusch was shaped by the rich cultural influences of Appalachian roots and industrial life. Her early years sparked a lifelong love of nature, myth, and storytelling. After moving to a small farming town in Wisconsin and attending the University of Wisconsin, she went on to live across the U.S. and abroad, including three years in Brazil.
Denise and her husband spent a decade exploring the U.S. and Europe on motorcycles, capturing inspiration through photographs and sketches. Today, her paintings—described as impressionism with a representational style—reflect her love of the outdoors, diverse cultures, and everyday beauty. She is currently experimenting with organic textures, impasto techniques, and palette knife work in oils, often inspired by daily walks with her dog, Maggie, and recent hiking trips in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Her work has been juried into shows at Atelier Art Studio in Royal Oak, Arts & Apples in Rochester, and Canvas Pontiac. Denise looks forward to expanding her practice through artist residencies and continued exploration.
